Today we went to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. We decided not to do an organized tour but, to do it on our own. I bought tickets online ahead of time and picked the earliest time they had available. We just did general admission which provided us with the round-trip boat ride and audio tour. We caught the boat on the New Jersey side at the Liberty State Park. We took an Uber from our hotel to the park and when we were finished with the day, we walked back to our hotel with a stop for lunch. The first stop was Ellis Island where you could get off or stay on and go to the Statue of Liberty. We got off and there wasn't a lot of people which was nice because after grabbing some headphones and taking the audio tour at a relaxing pace, we didn't feel rushed. After the tour we went and caught the boat to Statue of Liberty. There was a lot more people at the Statue of Liberty, definitely a lot more popular. After walking around the Statue of Liberty and going into the gift shop to buy a miniature version of the Statue of Liberty we decided to go back to mainland and find a sit-down restaurant for lunch instead of eating there.
It was nice seeing the Statue of Liberty and getting to see it in person but, I preferred Ellis Island. I had great grandparents that came to Ellis Island back in the early 1900s, so I found it interesting to see how the people were processed into the United States of America.
