We took our time to disembark from the Cunard Queen Mary II cruise. We booked the Hyatt Regency Jersey City on the Hudson for 2 nights. We picked to stay in Jersey City versus New York City because the hotel wasn't too far from Liberty State Park where the terminal is located to catch the boat to go to Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty.
We had an Uber pick us up from the cruise terminal and take us to the hotel. Check in was at 4:00 PM and because we were there before noon, we were given the choice of paying an extra $50 and check in early or leave our bags and come back at 4:00. We choose to check in early and take our bags to our room and freshen up before we went to find a snack. We had a food tour and 2:30 PM and wanted to have an appetite for the tour so, we just shared a sandwich, and each grabbed something to drink.
The walking tour and food tasting tour was in Greenwich Village. A subway entrance was near our hotel, so we decided to head to Greenwich Village a couple hours before our meet up time. The subway wasn't as self-explanatory as the tube in London but, we were able to find the subway we were supposed to be on and arrived at our destination. We walked around the area and then went to Starbucks for something cold to drink and use the restroom.
We meet our tour guide at Molly's Cupcakes where we also met another couple and a family of four. So, it was a nice small group taking the tour. We got to try Falafel's from Mamoun's Falafel, which has been around since 1971. The Artichoke Basille's Pizza where we had artichoke pizza, I don't like artichokes, but this pizza was good and rich tasting. We then tried some Belgian fries and their extraordinary sauces they have over 30 flavors at Pommes Frites. The fries and sauces were very good. Then we went to another pizza place called Bleecker Street Pizza and had nonna Maria pizza. Then we tried arancini (rice ball) at the Faicco's Italian Specialty store. Our last stop was back at Molly's cupcakes where we got to pick a cupcake. We took our cupcakes to go to have later. I had the chocolate sea salt caramel cupcake, it was a chocolate cake, dulce de leche filing, salted buttercream, chocolate and caramel drizzle. It was one of the best cupcakes that I have ever eaten.
