Exploring the Scenic Route: Traveling from Vancouver to Seattle by Train
Updated: Sep 7
A Journey Worth Taking
Pacific Central Station is a charming railway station in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Here, you can catch the Amtrak train to Seattle. This train departs twice daily: once in the morning and again in the late afternoon. The route includes stops in Bellingham, Mount Vernon, Stanwood, Everett, Edmonds, and finally, Seattle.
The train ride from Vancouver to Everett takes just over three hours. It’s a beautiful journey, filled with stunning views and a sense of adventure.
Choosing Your Class
When you book your ticket, you have two options: Coach and Business class. The main difference? Business class passengers board the train first. Plus, you get 42 inches of legroom compared to 39 inches in Coach. Business class also features a 2-1 seat configuration, which is perfect if you’re traveling solo and prefer not to sit next to a stranger.
Both classes have access to the shared Cafe Car. This little gem offers a small menu featuring breakfast sandwiches, muffins, bagels, sandwiches, mac & cheese, burgers, candy, and a selection of non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks. It’s a great way to grab a bite while enjoying the scenery.
Quick Stops and Efficient Service
The stops along the way are quick and efficient. Passengers and luggage are loaded and unloaded swiftly. However, I did wish our seats faced forward in the direction we were traveling. Instead, we were seated backward, which felt a bit disorienting. I suppose those traveling north to Vancouver enjoyed the forward view.
Upon arriving in Everett, we were on time. The luggage was unloaded promptly, but everyone had to retrieve their bags from the platform. It would have been nice if someone from the station had gathered the luggage for us, but it was manageable.
Why Train Travel is a Great Option
Overall, I would choose the train again over flying into SeaTac. The thought of dealing with traffic and the hassle of airlines is enough to make anyone prefer a leisurely train ride. There’s something special about watching the landscape unfold outside your window.
Tips for Your Train Journey
Arrive Early: Give yourself plenty of time to find your platform and settle in before departure.
Pack Snacks: While the Cafe Car is convenient, bringing your own snacks can save you money and ensure you have your favorites on hand.
Bring Entertainment: Download movies, books, or podcasts to keep you entertained during the ride.
Dress Comfortably: Wear layers, as train temperatures can vary.
Conclusion
Traveling by train from Vancouver to Seattle is not just a way to get from point A to point B; it’s an experience in itself. The scenic views, the comfort of the ride, and the ease of travel make it a fantastic option for families and couples alike. So, if you’re considering your next adventure, I wholeheartedly recommend hopping on the Amtrak train. You won’t regret it!
And remember, the journey is just as important as the destination. Happy travels!
